2019 Lifelong Learner Scholarship Award Recipients
In 2000, the Business Women’s Network of Howard County established the Lifelong Learner Scholarship Program to support Howard County women in reaching the next step in their careers or businesses. Since then, we have awarded over $55,000 in Scholarships. For 2019, we are awarding 5 outstanding Howard County women $1,500 each to embark on their next steps to success. Meet our 2019 awardees!
Micah Bernard is a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with a passion to advocate for elders. She is studying for her Associate of Arts. degree in nursing at Howard Community College. After obtaining her R.N, she plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN).
Heather Huling is a single mother, who works for the Columbia Festival of the Arts as an office and event coordinator part time, teaches piano, and sells real estate. She is pursuing her Master of Science in Nonprofit Administration degree through the online program at Louisiana State University–Shreveport. Her goal is to give back by working in in communications, development, and marketing for a nonprofit.
Autumn Johnson grew up in Howard County and is passionate about reducing health disparities among African Americans. She is pursuing her Bachelor of Science (BSN) at Morgan State University with the goal of eventually becoming a nurse practitioner at Howard County General Hospital.
Jenny Phillips is a working mother of three children, and her husband is permanently disabled due to Multiple Sclerosis. She is currently pursuing her nursing degree at Howard Community College to earn an RN, and aims to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). She wants to become a nurse to help people and to build a better life for her family.
Anita Randolph is a single mother working on her Associate of Arts degree in Health Education from Howard Community College with plans to transfer to Johns Hopkins University to obtain her Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Health. Her five-year goal is to be a Healthcare Administrator for a nursing home and clinic. She especially wants to help the elders navigate their health insurance and medical bills.
